Previously defined as 'Multi-denominational', Educate Together schools now define themselves as 'Equality-based'. The former term failed to include people with non faith-based belief systems such as Humanists and Atheists and lacked a wider emphasis on human rights. Our school is thus founded on an explicitly rights' based agenda and is conscious not only of diversity in beliefs, but also in terms of class, gender, ethnicity, LGBT issues etc. We do not seek to adapt our school for various 'minority groups'; rather it is built from 'day one' with a plurality of students in mind. We see cultural diversity, not as a threat, but as both nourishing of and strengthening of our collective humanity.
